Tom O'Dell A perfect representation of that 90s pagan/viking black metal sound but suitably refreshed for 2020, and a hell of a riff-laden ride that even the grumpiest metalhead should enjoy. Favorite track: Eternal Defiance.

MØS This sounds like it came straight from 1996. Raw, aggressive but very atmospheric. It's an excellent tribute to Scandinavian 2nd wave black metal. If you're a fan of bands like Sacramentum or Lord Belial this album is for you. Favorite track: Kingdom in Shadow.

M► Castle on a cover = automatically good black metal. Favorite track: Frozen Castles Defy.

I'd say Havukruunu is the rightful holder of the Crown and the mantle of Quorthon. Epic choirs, vikingesque themes and tales from the other times, of the Finnish paganism back in the days before our ancestors were brought to the cross and forced to kneel while feeling the bloody sword of saviour on their throats made to kiss the hand of murderers who burnt thousands, tore down our holy places and took our holy days. The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity.
